I read through a lot of blogs, articles and books that talk about leadership and the values and qualities of people that are seen as great leaders. People will argue about what traits make for the best leader and I have personally witnessed a scenario where a whole classroom was up in arms about the concept of “born” versus “made” leaders.
The idea of a born leader, to me, is only a remote possibility. I do think someone could be born INTO leadership, but not necessarily born as a leader. I feel we all have the same potential when conceived; however, circumstance plays its part in the determination of where leaders come from, and who they will be. What a person’s upbringing and experiences are early in life help to mold the mind to be prepared for the vision required to be a leader, or the safety of staying in the background as a follower.
After a person’s upbringing, comes choice. Does a person WANT to lead? Is a person content with being led? I am choosing to be a leader. This blog is about leadership; a journey of mine, and hopefully a collaboration with others. I believe a leader is made, and I believe the key to leadership is development.
I invite feedback, followers, conversation and fun. I look forward to where my journey will take me, as I look back and take in how I have gotten to where I am now.
